Rural and Frontier Dwellers and Those Who Care for Them
Describes the characteristics of rural and frontier communities and their residents as well as necessary skills and characteristics of successful rural care providers. Includes characteristics and implications for any service provider's practice, not just nursing, but also family life education, social services and all manner of health care providers. Not just for health care providers practicing in rural areas, but for urban providers as well, to understand the unique characteristics of rural residents and the limitations of rural health care practice providers. Based on Deborah’s masters thesis work “Rural nursing practice: domains of practice, characteristics of excellence.”
Audience: Rural and frontier health care providers, rural nurses, urban nurses and other health care providers interacting with rural dwellers and rural facilities, orientation for human services providers wishing to provide services to rural dwellers.
Options: 1-1.5 hr. Keynote, general session or breakout. Can be formatted as either an overview or rural and frontier healthcare, or as a Rural Nursing Celebration--An Inspirational presentation as a celebration of the unique characteristics and knowledge of the rural nurse.
